Malta Freeport was fully compliant with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code  when it came into force on 1 July 2004. In its effort to ensure full compliance with this code the Company implemented a number of additional security measures. These included more stringent identification and access control procedures, the installation of appropriate fencing and lighting to secure Malta Freeport’s perimeter as well as closed circuit television in key places.

Malta Freeport also appointed a Port Security Officer for its facilities, developed a training programme for all security personnel in conjunction with the US Coast Guard, and merged its security procedures with the Company’s Quality Management System which is ISO 9001:2000 certified
