Malta Freeport Terminals’ employees will once again this year be supporting the Good Friday Night Walk which started off in 2004 as a personal pilgrimage by Joseph Vella from Mellieha and his son-in-law Glenn. The year after, Malta Freeport Terminals’ employee Charles Fenech wanted to boost the event and encouraged the Freeport's employees to participate in the night walk. Indeed, the Good Friday Walk is promoted extensively with our employees. Malta Freeport Terminals’ employees that help in the organisation of the Good Friday Night Walk are Charles Briffa, Gianluke Cassar, Ali Hasan Dilgesh, Charles Fenech, Daniel Hili, Saviour Meilaq, Kevin Schembri and Oliver Tanti.
Walkers from Melliea gather at around 1 am outside the Sanctuary of Our Lady in Mellieħa and others from the central and southern parts of Malta meet in Senglea at midnight and catch several buses and coaches to Mellieħa. The first to arrive in front of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Senglea are those who are fit enough to jog all the way from Mellieħa, taking around two and a-half hours to complete the 27-kilometre route. All the participants that complete the Good Friday Walk are given a commemorative certificate. Many also enter the church to pay their respects to Christ the Redeemer.
Last year over 10,000 persons participated in the event.
Fruits, Water and Coffee stations will be provided along the way and participants will be accompanied by emergency transport throughout.
Free transport before and after the walk will be provided upon booking.
