Malta Freeport Terminals CEO addresses ICHCA 20/20 Cargo Vision Conference

12/11/2019

When addressing the ICHCA 20/20 Cargo Vision Conference, Malta Freeport Terminals CEO Alex Montebello told the delegates that safety is at the very top of the Freeport’s agenda and that the facility takes every conceivable step to protect the delicate marine environment in which it operates. The Conference is being hosted in Malta by Malta Freeport Terminals from 11-14 November. This is the second time that Malta Freeport hosted such an ICHCA event, the last time being in 2011. As maritime cargo interests face up to the challenges of an increasingly automated and digitalised world, the Conference is providing a unique platform to create safer, more sustainable and secure maritime cargo operations on land and at sea.

Malta Freeport Terminals utilises an integrated Health and Safety and Environmental Management System that conforms to international standards – ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

Freeport CEO Alex Montebello said:  “We have achieved success in this field through developing skills in a variety of areas, and involving our colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders in every step of our continuous development of safety practices and environmental standards.

"As we have grown, we have also adopted every conceivable measure to be good neighbours to the local community such as the installation of white noise alarms which have had a significant impact on noise levels."

The cross-sector networking opportunities offered by ICHCA have helped the industry to resolve issues on safety and the environment as all the players seek to comply with ever-changing regulations that affect the industry.
