Malta Freeport is embracing future challenges with enthusiasm, determined to sustain its prestigious standing within the Mediterranean containerisation market by satisfying its clients’ ever-increasing expectations.
WHERE WE’RE HEADING
— Malta Freeport purchased 2 megamax Quayside Cranes with the capability of operating 23,000 TEU vessels from world-leading manufacturer Liebherr Container Cranes. These were assembled on site and are now fully operational.
—These Cranes feature outstanding specifications including an outreach of 72 metres, an air draft of 54 metres, and twin-lift spreader capability.
—Future Plans (2023 – 2024)
–-Squaring Off of Terminal Two North Quay extension – The principal quay for handling the latest class of 24,000 TEU vessels and over will be increased to 688m. The West Quay will be increased to 313 metres. The Capacity of the Terminal will increase from 3.6 million TEUs to 4.0 million TEUs with the completion of this project scheduled in 2024.
—The North Quay of Terminal Two will be equipped with an additional 2 megamax Quayside Cranes capable of reaching 25 containers across. This will present Malta Freeport with a 7 Crane formation on the North Quay of Terminal Two.
