Malta Freeport Terminals’ employees were given the opportunity to participate in the Naqsam il-MUŻA Project which is an exercise in community curation whereby members of an identified community choose and present artworks from the art collection which will soon be on display at the national collection of MUŻA – the new National Museum of Fine Arts in Malta. This project allows communities to choose and ‘curate’ their own pieces from the MUŻA collection and bring images of the works into their own localities. Since its launch in 2016, the project involved several communities across Malta.
Ten employees from different departments participated in this initiative, namely Olivia Schembri from Marketing and Operations; Joseph Alamango, Malcolm Caruana, Martin Darmanin, Raymond Felice, and Carol Pisani from Operations; Robert Bartolo and Anthony J. Zarb from Engineering; Nicholas Abdilla from Human Resources and Mario Delicata from Health, Safety & Environment. This was a completely different experience for all the participants who appreciated the unique opportunity that they were given to participate in this project.
The participants presented their chosen work of art to their relatives, friends and employees highlighting the reasons for choosing the particular painting and its relevance to them. Digital reproductions of the original ten paintings, along with the participants’ comments will be installed in various key places at Malta Freeport Terminals as well as in public spaces around Birzebbuga, thanks to the full collaboration of the Birzebbuga Local Council in this Project.
