Malta Freeport Terminals is delighted to have won the Waste Reduction Award for Best Practice in Business

Waste not… #MaltaFreeportTerminals is delighted to have won the Waste Reduction Award for Best Practice in Business at the ninth edition of the Malta Waste Reduction Awards. The Freeport was recognised for an initiative that encouraged communities to come together to promote sustainable waste management, culminating in a number of environmental initiatives in Birzebbuga during European Week for Waste Reduction which focused on the theme of ‘Circular Communities’. In her address congratulating participants, Environment, Energy and Enterprise Minister Miriam Dalli said “such actions inspire everyone to be part of this positive shift towards more sustainable consumption and production patterns”. Among the activities organised by the Freeport, staff lent a helping hand to primary school students to make bags from used material, collected by the local council from within the village, as well as building three cars, a snowman and Father Christmas with used tyres and other recycled material. Freeport employees also got to work on regenerating a green recreation area within the village known as Misrah il-Pajtier as well as collaborating with local clubs and the Freeport Corporation to plant trees, paint benches and use materials to create features to embellish the area. A clean-up activity was also organised.
